Artist's Statement
My work develops from a process of internal exploration and response to my life. That exploration can be dreams that are later composed and documented. It can be a combination of images I experience daily, or objects composed and ordered until they “satisfy”. Sketching and watercolors are the beginning of the process. The use of varied materials is a response to the content of each piece. I appreciate draftsmanship and the feel of creating a well-crafted work.
Not What It Seems is a still life that expresses a delusional reality. It speaks to a world of hostility where the bottom has fallen out. It references churning occurring below the surface. All this observed at a distance from above. It is my attempt to communicate the duplicity of aggression.
